Start-ups to follow in 2013 - PragmatIC

PragmatIC of Cambridge is using a radical form of lithography to make organic transistors on flexible plastic foil. The unusual process, which uses pressure rather than light, has the potential to be cheap. Low cost and flexibility is allowing the team to look for customers that cannot use traditional silicon chips. In November last year it started commercial production at the National Centre for Printable Electronics in Sedgefield, County Durham, formerly known as PeTEC. "This isn't just an interesting technology anymore, people are paying money for it. It will be on supermarket shelves in the near future, as soon as it has worked its way through the supply chain," PragmatIC CEO Scott White told Electronics Weekly.
