Competition between ODMs over server-related products heats up Aaron Lee, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Monday 28 January 2013] Competition over server-related products between Taiwan-based ODMs has started heating up as Quanta Computer and Wistron continue to land server orders directly from large web players such as Facebook and Amazon, skipping server brand vendors, while Compal Electronics and Inventec are aggressively persuading the server brand vendors to switch their orders to them, according to sources from the upstream supply chain. Quanta has already started phasing out of the server ODM business and turning to focus on gaining new clients from the datacenter hardware market.
