Welcome to our 5 Engineers section, part of this blog and our Fun Friday newsletter, where we toss out a question and invite our audience to respond with their wittiest answers. This week, on the cusp of DESIGN West and its many open-source hardware and software (OSHS) sessions, we’re thinking specifically about open-source hardware (OSH). OSH is a growing trend, particularly among younger engineers. It seems that you’re either fully on-board with OSH, proudly cheering on positives like efficiency in prototyping and feedback from a strong design community (as SparkFun’s Chris Taylor discusses here ), or rail against it, stating negatives like licensing issues and sometimes less than professional craftsmanship in design.
