Sony Mobile aims to ship 65 million smartphones in fiscal 2014 Daniel Shen, Taipei; Steve Shen, DIGITIMES [Monday 30 September 2013] Sony Mobile Communications aims to ship 65 million smartphones in its fiscal year 2014 (April 2014-March 2015), up 55% from the 42 million units projected for the current fiscal year, according to sources in the vendor's supply chain. Consequently, Sony Mobile is also expected to release more orders to Taiwan-based handset OEM/ODMs, including Arima Communications, Compal Communications and Foxconn/FIH Mobile, the sources indicated. Each of the three ODMs are likely to snap up orders for 2-4 models from Sony Mobile in the next fiscal year, revealed the sources, adding that combined orders received by Taiwan-based handset ODMs from the Japan-based vendor are likely to grow over 50% in fiscal 2014.
