8-core CPU shipments to boost MediaTek December and 4Q13 revenues Cage Chao, Taipei; Steve Shen, DIGITIMES [Monday 30 December 2013] MediaTek's revenues for December as well as the fourth quarter of 2013 will be higher than expected due to shipments of its 8-core MT6592 smartphone solutions, according to industry sources. A number of first-tier China-based handset vendors are to unveil their new models powered by MediaTek's 8-core CPUs prior to the Lunar New Year holidays, with second- and third-tier vendors to follow suit later, indicated the sources. Shipments of the MT6592 chips will be ramped up significantly in January 2014 and continue moving upward thanks to the adoption of the 8-core chips by China-based smartphone vendors, MediaTek chairman MK Tsai said recently in China.
