Phoenix, Insyde and AMI competing for adoption of UEFI BIOS in Windows 8 Monica Chen, Taipei; Steve Shen, DIGITIMES [Wednesday 14 March 2012] Having released the beta version of Windows 8 at the end of February, Microsoft is now in the final stages of testing and revisions, and working with hardware developers and collect bug reports from them. With the official launch of the new OS looming, BIOS providers including American Megatrends (AMI), Insyde Software and Phoenix Technologies have been gearing up efforts to win adoption of their solutions supporting the UEFI (unified extensible firmware interface) standard from those Microsoft's hardware supporters. The Windows 8 Consumer Preview, unveiled on February 29, suggests the processor architectures to run the new OS. Microsoft has also required UEFI and secure boot for Windows 8 hardware.
