Use cases are critically important, and designers should also be aware of the range of technologies that make obtaining sufficient safeguards easier and less expensive. Implementing security presents designers of low power and ultra low power (ULP) wireless devices with a different set of concerns than those of large-scale, IT-type designs. On one hand, the short range transmission of data used in sports, fitness, toys, and many consumer electronics applications is of little interest to most hackers, which argues for employing lower-cost security techniques that do not require additional resources, for example.
