The device can levitate polystyrene particles by reflecting sound waves from a source above and a concave reflector below. In the past, similar devices required the sound source and reflector to be at fixed distances. However, this new device does not require a fixed separation distance between the source and the reflector, making it easy to move and control the levitating objects.
