There may be occasions when it’s desirable to perform radiated immunity pre-compliance testing to levels higher than the near field probing methods I’ve described in an earlier blog posting and in the article I wrote for Interference Technology Magazine. The near field probe technique works well for most pre-compliance or troubleshooting situations, however, there may be applications where you wish to either troubleshoot or test at immunity levels above the 3 to 10 V/m afforded by the probes. This posting shows how you may achieve up to 50 V/m on your bench top. For example, one of my recent clients had an RF immunity issue, plus they wanted to know whether their commercial product could meet the MIL-STD-461 RS-103 immunity requirement of 50 V/m.
