Wireless Tbps Achieved By Surrey University. 2 comments david manners 25th February 2015 Get news by email Tbps speeds for 5G have been demo-ed over 100 metres at Surrey University by a research team from the university’s 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) headed up by Professor Rahim Tafazolli. Tafazolli says that it could be publicly demonstrated in early 2018. Ofcom has pencilled in 2020 for 5G which it expects to deliver 10-50Gbps. Samsung and operator SKTelecom plan to demo a so-called 5G technology at MWC next week which delivers 7.5Gbps. Samsung uses 3D beamforming which may require a high density of access points. Tafazolli says the Surrey technology “works really well in environments where there is a lot of interference – dense cells and cells with lots of interfering antennas like massive MIMO.” Tafazolli says end-to-end latency has to be reduced to below 1 millisecond....
