How softwarization will affect the Internet of Things #sdi #sddc #sdn #iot

This blog is the inaugural blog in the IEEE IoT Brain Trust series. This collection of blogs will explore IoT in the industry.  While Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) are mutually beneficial, they are not dependent on each other. Network functions can be virtualized and deployed without an SDN being required and vice-versa. But both can be seen as expressions of a systemic “softwarization” trend that is not only impacting telecom but other Industries as well. Softwarization is being accelerated by ultra-broadband diffusion and IT techno-economic drivers, such as increased performance of processing and storage at continuously decreasing costs, and will have a huge impact as it reshapes current ecosystems and creates new opportunities, taking us beyond the Internet of Things (IoT).
