Taiwan government to buy land for TSMC 18-inch plant, says paper Commercial Times; Jessie Shen, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 12 June 2012] Taiwan's Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD) has approved a project to assist Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to construct an 18-inch wafer fab at the Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP), the Chinese-language Commercial Times cited unnamed government officials as saying in a June 12 report. The CTSP Administration Office will carry out the project with plans to acquire about 53.6 hectares of land – now owned by Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense – for NT$5.29 billion (US$176.6 million), the paper quoted CTSP Administration director general Yang Wen-ke as stating.
