Taiwan handset ODMs welcome small changes in Jelly Bean from Android 4.0 Daniel Shen, Taipei; Steve Shen, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 3 July 2012] The release of Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) has offered relief to Taiwan-based handset ODMs, as the newly revised platform indicates that Google has slowed down the upgrade cycle of its Android OS, according to industry sources. Jelly Bean represents only small upgrades in features, instead of a total revision, from its predecessor, Android 4.0, the sources noted. Android has become mature and a slowdown in further upgrades will leave more time for ODMs to optimize their own platforms and develop more software based on Android, said the sources. Although Android 4.0 has been available for more than half a year, Android 2.x-based smartphones still account for 90% of Android-based models, indicating an over-diversification of the Android ecosy...
