An example might be prioritising a car’s control system to make it collide with another vehicle if it meant avoiding hitting a pedestrian. A report in the MIT Technology Review describes how automated driving researcher Chris Gerdes, a professor at Stanford University, and Patrick Lin, a professor of philosophy at Cal Poly, organised a workshop at Stanford earlier this year that brought together philosophers and engineers to discuss the issue.
