Sony, SEI Prototype High-brightness Green Laser Diode Jun 22, 2012 14:58 Tadashi Nezu, Nikkei Electronics Sony Corp and Sumitomo Electric Industries (SEI) Ltd prototyped a green laser diode that has a 530nm-band oscillation wavelength and a 100mW or higher optical output in a continuous oscillation. SEI announced a green laser diode with an oscillation wavelength of 531nm in 2009, but it used pulsed oscillation at that time. The photoelectric conversion efficiency of the prototype is 8% or higher. The green laser diode is made by the crystal growth of GaN (gallium nitride)-based semiconductor on the semipolar surface of a GaN substrate. For the active layer, InGaN (indium gallium nitride) is used. The GaN substrate is manufactured by SEI.
