“One of the challenges of driving SiC mosfets is the high frequency and high voltage at which they are switched,” said Recom. “High potentials between the control and power side of an application can wear down isolation barriers, eventually causing them to fail.” For a strong barrier, RxxP22005D and RKZ-xx2005D series come with 3, 4 or 5.2kVdc isolation. SiC mosfets require turn-on and turn-off voltages that differ from most IGBTs or silicon mosfets, and to match these the SiC mosfet driver power supplies – called RxxP22005D (5.2kV) and RKZ-xx2005D (3 or 4kV) – have asymmetric outputs of +20V and -5V. Both families can be used with equal power (asymmetrical current) or equal current (asymmetrical power) loads. Input voltages are 5, 12, 15 or 24V. The converter have low parasitic capacitance, and power sharing capabilities, plus compliance with UL-60950-1, RoHS2, and REACH....
