Damn good posting and absolutely spot on in so many ways, well done :-)) Circa 1980 had consultancy contract with Pretron Electronics in Perth, Western Australia, they designed a nucleonic ore flow gauge for Mt Newman Mining. Used Cs137 beta emitters as a pair to determine mass flow rate of iron ore across various mesh screen particulate separators by relative absorbance/transmittance – all driven from software reading the electron beam counts from a pair of scintillation counters by the newest 16 bit micro, an NSC Pace-16 which ran a low end Forth like stack maths at assembler level – everything suggested by Elliot Williams is absolutely spot on re my experience decades ago, as to; minimise cycle time & cumulative roundoff error – the output went to a chart record for audit purpose and also to a Foxboro r Honeywell servo controller to modulate the angle on the ore flow fe...
