Windows 8 yet to stir up demand for PC chips Cage Chao, Taipei; Steve Shen, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 9 October 2012] Despite the looming release of the Windows 8 at the end of October, analog IC suppliers have not yet experienced a pickup in orders from the PC sector for the fourth quarter, according to industry sources. Although fourth-quarter orders for PC-related chips are normally lower than those for the third quarter due to seasonality, some international chipset players have pointed out that they are surprised to see continual shrinking global demand for PC products which has persisted since the third quarter. The recent weak performance of Intel's and AMD's share prices also illustrate the lukewarm prospects of the global PC market, commented the sources. Taiwan-based analog IC suppliers have also revealed that their downstream clients are not optimistic about the prospe...
