Digitimes Research: Trends in smart TV development Jino Hsu, DIGITIMES Research, Taipei [Monday 22 October 2012] Since 2010, TV vendors have been putting their emphasis on developing smart TVs, each with their own distinct direction as to what kind of functions the TVs will have. Some vendors are laying out their smart TVs to be at the core of family interaction by providing platforms and OTT (over the top) services while other vendors are more or less mimicking smartphone functions and applying them to their smart TV devices. The latter group lacks a comprehensive plan as to how to develop smart TVs into something of their own kind and will thus find difficulty in keeping their consumers interested.
