Power Industry Faces Down Hurricane Sandy: With predicted landfall still hours away, falling trees, flying debri...

With Hurricane Sandy now bearing down on New Jersey, utility companies up and down the U.S. Eastern seaboard are now on high alert. Over the weekend, I spoke with Nicholas Abi-Samra , a 35-year veteran of the power industry and an expert on the effects of extreme weather on the electricity grid, to see how companies are gearing up for this massive storm. Abi-Samra, chair of the IEEE Power & Energy Society’s San Diego chapter, is vice president of asset management at Quanta Technology , an energy consulting company headquartered in Raleigh, N.C.
