Brain-sensing allows monkey to type at 12 words per minute: A monkey has copied text from the New York Times

The researchers are Processor Krishna Shenoy and Dr Paul Nuyujukian. “Our results demonstrate that this interface may have great promise for use in people,” said Nuyujukian (pictured). “It enables a typing rate sufficient for a meaningful conversation.” The Stanford team implanted a multi-electrode array in the creature’s brain in a region that ordinarily directs hand and arm movements used to move a computer mouse, said the University. An algorithm translates signals and as the user makes letter selections from a video display . The monkeys testing the technology had been trained to type letters corresponding to what they see on a screen.
