Cloud security system spots software hacks in cars

The intrusion detection system (IDS) for connected vehicles is the result of a collaboration between connected vehicle software firms Harman and Airbiquity. With the increasing dependency on software to power vehicle systems and features, making vehicles secure from internet based hackers has become a major design issue. The IDS uses Airbiquity’s cloud-based Choreo service for data management. The software is based on Hartman’s software, called Ecushield, which monitors and identifies security threats for the vehicle’s networks. Once a threat, or intrusion, is logged, the data is aggregated in the cloud, and alerts the user. This includes the secure transmission and installation of vehicle software updates from the cloud to mitigate future threats and restore affected systems and components.
