Taiwan begins LED street lamp replacement project Siu Han, Taipei; Jackie Chang, DIGITIMES [Wednesday 2 January 2013] To reduce carbon emissions, Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs has begun promoting an LED street lamp replacement project. The plan originally was scheduled to switch 250,000 units of mercury street lamps to LED lamps in 2012 and to complete the installation of 326,000 LED street lamps in several phases within three years. The business opportunity attracted more than 30 firms, both international and domestic, to bid for the project. Nevertheless, the project had to be delayed as the certification of LED street lamp standards was only finalized in April 2012, and firms were required to go through a six-month testing period before bidding.
