ARM chips go extreme-low power on TSMC process no comment richard wilson 2013/05/17 Energy Micro is working with TSMC to verify the benefits of using the foundry’s Extreme Low Leakage (eLL) process to produce the next generation of its Cortex-M microcontrollers. TSMC’s eLL process is a refinement of its embedded flash (EmbFlash) technology with even lower power consumption than its previous generation prcoess. As a result this is a 50-70% reduction in stand-by current and 30% better active current, claimed the company. Improvements over the existing uLP process are slight at 25°C, while leakage is halved at 85°C. “With a natural move to 32-bit DSP CPU cores like the ARM Cortex-M4 with FPU, our energy efficient Gecko Technology benefits from TSMC’s latest process enhancements with the best low energy performance,” said Andreas Koller, v-p of sales at Energy Micro.
