Teach kids electronics with a robot car

Dan Harres has written an interesting book that gives young people a way to get interested in electronics, learn about circuits and electronic components, develop assembly-language programming skills, and create a small four-wheel robot. Instead of building a robotic vehicle from scratch, readers can start with an inexpensive radio-controlled car. Before people jump into this project, the author recommends some education in algebra, trigonometry, and high-school physics, at least through electromagnetics. Experience soldering and writing simple programs will help, too. I suggest parents and youngsters take a careful look at this book before they buy it. It provides a lot of information, but not always in a format in which readers can apply what they have learned right away.
