Mobile computing devices to spur SSD market growth, says LSI Josephine Lien, Taipei; Jessie Shen, DIGITIMES [Friday 31 May 2013] A fundamental shift from PC computing toward computing on mobile devices will create huge demand for related devices, such as smartphones and tablets, and data centers for cloud computing. Many suppliers of NAND flash device controller ICs have expressed optimism about growth in demand coming from the mobile computing sector. LSI, which retained its top position in the global SSD controller market in 2012, also agrees that mobile computing will drive growth in related devices, ICs and components. Thad Omura, VP of marketing for LSI's flash components division, indicated that SSD demand for mobile computing will register substantial growth over the next three to five years.
