Power requirements for IoT devices

There is a lot of buzz about the proliferation of the IoT devices and some of the market reasearch gurus are predicting that there would be billions of IoT devices in the next 4-5 years. Thw main question is the power supply to such devices , many of which will be tiny devices and many of them located remotely and workd wirelessly. In my opinion there is a need to go away from the traditional techniques of having a power supply unit with each sensing or controlling device. Instead we need to evole a technique of energy harvetsing such that each of these IoT device will have there own energy source to cater to the power needs of that device. The energy harvesting on board can be done by conversion of thermal energy, solar energy or any kind of chemical energy .
