Wistron drops 2Q12 notebook shipment forecast

Wistron drops 2Q12 notebook shipment forecast Aaron Lee, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Thursday 31 May 2012] Wistron has reduced its notebook shipment forecast for the second quarter from a growth of 0-5% sequentially to staying flat and or even a slight drop. Wistron shipped 8.5 million notebooks in the first quarter and originally expected to ship 8.5-8.9 million units in the second, up 0-5% on quarter, but because shipments in May were lower than expected, the company has decided to reduced its shipment forecast. For 2012, Wistron still maintains its shipment goal of 37.86 million units, up around 20% from 31.55 million units in 2011. Although notebook makers are turning conservative about performance in the second quarter, they are still optimistic about demand in the second half as Intel's new dual-core processors and Windows 8 will trigger a new PC replacement trend.
