#Engineers still prefer traditional instruments controls over touch screens, Test & Measure survey finds

Ever since I first tried the Oscium iOS oscilloscope's ability to use a pinch gesture, I've been convinced that this is the way to control an oscilloscope and sooner or later everyone will agree. Based on a recent test & measurement reader survey by EDN and EE Times, that time has yet to come. While it's true that some bench instruments now have capacitive touch screens and pinch gestures, our survey (see survey questions ) shows that EDN readers still prefer knobs and buttons, over other types. In the survey, we asked: What is your preferred way to interact with your instruments? (Please select all that apply.) Knobs/buttons on box Touch screen on box Touch screen (tablet/smartphone) Mouse or keyboard (computer/laptop) We also asked readers to provide their age because I assumed that younger engineers would be more likely to prefer touch screens to knobs and buttons.
