#RaspberryPi goes #BigData gathering with storage disk drives

A developer has had a successful Kickstarter campaign for a solid state disk (SSD) drive for Raspberry Pi A, B and Model 2, which for $79 gives first backers a 128GB mSATA drive. Bud Griffin says a key element of the design is that it can be plugged directly into one of the Raspberry Pi’s USB ports, with no external powered USB hubs needed. As a result the Pi’s other USB ports are available for other peripherals. A 1 Tbyte hard disk drive is already available from Western Digital for connecting to a Raspberry Pi or Raspberry Pi 2 computer module. It connects via the Raspberry Pi's USB port. The HDD kit comes with a USB 3.0 cable with a Type A male connector for the Pi, and a USB Micro B male plug to the power port on Raspberry Pi. The aim, says WD, is to remove the need for a separate USB hub. There is also a blank microSD card and adapter which can be used to test another...
