Yeah I suppose engineers are taking over - if you consider FINANCIAL engineers with MBAs, many of them at "private equity" firms running around buying out tech firms by issuing debt (bonds) that it takes the acquired firm decades to pay off! Even if you think about the internet and other software firms many of the ones we think of as having "made it" are run by individuals who never earned that tech sheepskin and felt (in many cases with some jusification) that getting the degree wasn't as important as getting that new company up and running. This current mania about getting the kids interested in STEM fields early "to make them competitive in the job market" is absolute MADNESS because the most powerful businessmen in the tech industry look at hiring engineers as "expense" NOT an investment, and in many cases they ONLY "rent" tech people in this country by requesting them...
